The National Commission for Justice and Peace strongly condemns the incident of Sargodha!

Lahore : (Press Release)

The National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP), a human rights body of the Catholic Church, has strongly condemned the incident in Mujahid Colony, Sargodha, where a mob burned and vandalized houses of Christian families after a Christian was accused of desecrating pages of the Holy Quran on May 25, 2024.

His Excellency Bishop Samson Shukardin, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference and Chairperson of NCJP, along with Rev. Fr. Bernard Emmanuel, National Director of NCJP, and Mr. Naeem Yousaf Gill, Executive Director of NCJP, expressed their serious concerns in a joint statement. They stated, “This attack once again exposes the failure of the state and law enforcement agencies in curbing the increasing extremism and violence in society, despite the directives of the Supreme Court.”

The NCJP leaders urged the Punjab Police and district administration to ensure the security of the Christian community and bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that swift and impartial justice must be served to restore faith in the legal system. They called for a judicial inquiry led by Dr. Shoaib Suddle to determine the responsibility for the mob attack and to hold police officials accountable for their inaction. Additionally, they demanded that no false blasphemy charges be registered against any Christians and that protection be provided to them. They also insisted on prompt compensation for the damage to the houses and factory.

In their statement, the NCJP leaders expressed solidarity with the affected Christian families and urged the Christian community to continue praying for the aggrieved families.  (NCJP Media Team)
